YOUNGHUSBAND, G.J. (COLONEL)  The Story of the Guides
London, Macmillan and Co. Limited. 1908. Second Printing. xvi, 207pp, frontis portrait and 15 plates, index. 8vo/23cm. Original red cloth gilt with gilt regimental insignia front board, slightly rubbed at extremities, minor spotting, internally clean and tight. Gift inscription on front blank to, "Tom Rigby/from/his Affectionate Aunt/EMC/1908". Col. R. North in his Literature of the North-West Frontier of India: A Select Bibliography, cites this book and one other on the 5th Gurkha Rifles as, "models of what a regimental history should be." In addition, he says that it "contains much useful information on the Yusafzai plain and border." (p 36). Major General George John Younghusband (1859-1944), brother of the more famous General Sir Francis Younghusband, served much of his term in India and took part in the relief of Chitral in 1894 about which they jointly wrote a book.
