Edward Vernall Lucas (1868-1938) was a popular English writer and essayist who wrote more than one hundred books including a number of 'Wanderer' books for several cities and countries as well as a biography of Charles Lamb. He also served as Chairman of Methuen & Company and was rather well-known for having one of the finest pornographic libraries in London. In addition to printed sources, the author based his "picture" or historical portrait of this event on the papers of the Trades Union Congress, interviews or correspondence with people closely connected with the event and hundreds of letters detailing personal experiences during the strike. Julian Symons (1912-1994) was a prolific British writer with more than fifty books to his credit.
