A novel of "lusts and hate and calloused consciences" centering around the garment trade of New York City, then loosely centred around Seventh Avenue. This was the author's second book. It was later re-published under the title, "How Cheap Can You Get". Martin Abzug (1917-1986) was the husband of the well-known Congresswoman and feminist, Bella Abzug (1920-1998). They were married for forty-two years and despite all the characterizations of the Congresswoman as crusty, assertive and sometimes ascerbic, these are usually put in the minority by the positive characterizations of the marriage. As the author says in his Foreword, thought the stories are pure fiction all are based on something that actually happened. The author Dr. James W. Spain (1926-2008). spent his entire career in government service at first with the CIA and the majority with the U.S. Foreign Service where he served as Ambassador to Turkey and Sri Lanka. He was an authority on the Pathans of the Pak-Afghan border area on which he wrote his thesis, The Pathan Borderland and several other books.
