Dark green cloth, orange & yellow lettering, light wear, in mylar protector, lacks frontis portrait (though no signs of excision or removal), hinge papers cracked, otherwise clean. tight and very good. The adventurous early career of the explorer and naturalist, Roy Chapman Andrews (1884-1960), who became Director of the American Museum of Natural History in 1934. He is often styled as the modern-day version of the fictional adventurer, Indiana Jones.

Major, Clements Markham, Henry Yule and later figures such as William Foster, R.A. Skelton and Esmond de Beer. Roy C. Bridges was Professor of History, University of Aberdeen at the time of writing; Paul Edward Hedley Hair, had been Professor of Modern History, University of Liverpool.

Tan cloth gilt, lettering faded, light rubbing, internally fine. The author's exploits from the late 19th century up to 1925. Sven Anders Hedin (1865-1952) of Sweden was one of the most famous and perhaps most picturesque explorers of the late 19th and early 20th century and this book tells how it began. Later in life he was controversial because of his conservative political opinions and acquaintanceship with as well as admiration for Hitler. Marshall 2095; Yakushi H113.

Brown cloth, light wear, minor foxing on foreedge otherwise internally fine. VG. Lowell Thomas (1892-1981), author, news commentator, world traveler and adventurer, chose twelve explorers to write about who were 'of more than ordinary interest' and who he felt had 'fallen through the cracks' of more academic compendiums. Kurt Wiese (1887-1974), was a German born illustrator who illustrated more than 320 books and twice won the Caldecott Award.
