| HILL, BRIAN Inn-Signia London, Naldreth Press Ltd for Whitbread & Co Ltd. 1949. Second edition (1948). 58pp, 7 colored plates, 33 illustrations in monochrome, bibliography, index. Tall Sm4to/24.5cm. Illustrated boards, light wear, in lookalike dj with some edgewear and one short closed edge tear, internally fine. A nicely got-up book about one of the unique interesting aspects of English country life, its inn signs. Combining as they do history and design, they have always been of interest not only to tourists but to the average Englishman--perhaps even more now as the traditional inn and its associated public house is going out of existence at a rapid rate. Much curious and little known information about their history and makers. Whitbread & Company is one of Britain's oldest brewers, founded in 1742.
