Blue cloth gilt, rubbed at extremities, in worn and chipped dj, internally clean, tight and very good. The text is that of 1860 edited with a Preface and notes by E. Stanley Poole. The Note to the 1908 edition is by Ernest Rhys. Chapter headings include: Personal Characteristics, and Dress, of the Muslim Egyptians, Religion and Laws, Domestic Life, Common Usages of Society, Language Literature and Science, Superstitions, Industry, Music, Private Festivities, Death and Funeral Rites, and Supplements on The Copts, The Jews and Late Innovations in Egypt. A classic many times reprinted. Edward William Lane (1801-1876), a student of Arabic, spent most of the years between 1825 and 1849 in Egypt. Moursi Saad el-Din was Cultural Secretary of the Egyptian Education Bureau and wrote a number of books on his own.
