An introduction with monochrome illustrations of the collection of Chinese art and ceramics given to the University of London in 1950 by the scholar and collector Sir Percival David (1892-1964). He also funded a chair in Chinese Art. His wife, Lady David, was made the Curator. In 1983 a Lady David Gallery was added and in July 2007 the British Museum announced that the joint collection of some seventeen hundred ceramics would he transferred to their premises.
