MILTON, JOHN.  Paradise Lost: A Poem in Twelve Books.
J & R Tonson, 1738. . H/b, 6.5" x 3.5", 15th edition, 350pp plus index. Includes" An Account of his Life". Leather bound in brown. Spine has central vertical (mostly closed) crack and has lost most of the surface leather and gilt decoration with ribbing cord becoming exposed in places. Spine has small chips. Red spine title panel with gilt lettering is still present (though split by vertical crack) with small chip. Hinges are split and front and back boards are very rubbed but still attatched. Corners are bumped. However despite wear it is still sound though weak and pages are firmly in place. Frontis. engraving and further engravings begin each book. Slight fold across corner of title page which has a very few dull, old markings. Overall internal condition is good to very good. Binding is a little better than fair.

Produced on thick paper with an attractive layout and pleasing type-face. Text block is very clean and neat. Binding is sound. Good+, sound copy.
