London: Duckworth, 1978 repr. Hard Cover. 0716712808. 85pp. First published in 1928 this memoir of conversations with the novelist Thomas Hardy is by his friend, the publisher Vere Colins. Six occasions are noted in play form with Collins' observations on rooms etc as though they are stage directions. Mrs Hardy (the second one, Florence formerly Dugdale) is also recorded. The topics are often literary and poets such as W. H. Auden, Lascelles Abercrombie, Edward Thomas and Robert Bridges are discussed. Clean and bright. Ffep has had a neat diagonal cut. Near fine copy in near fine dust wrapper.

Oxford: OUP, 1981. . P/b, 7.5" x 5", 150pp. Biography of Florence Dugdale, the second wife of novelist Thomas Hardy. Through her relationship with Hardy she became friendly with those in the literary circles in which he moved: J M Barrie, Siegfried Sassoon and others. A small number of black and white plates. Copy has suffered some internal browning and is rubbed and bumped. Sound and clean. Neat inscription by previous owner. Overall a near good copy.
