| THE ATHABASCA OIL SANDS, 1951 - 1983 Cambridge, UK, ND (1983), . 4to, pp. 251 Â ¶ This is the first draft of a report prepared by Great Plains Research Consultants, of Calgary, for the Historic Sites Service, Alberta Culture, of Edmonton, Alberta. It is a copy of a typed manuscript, prepared on 8 1/2" x 11" paper (text on one side of each page). There are five chapters, followed by an Epilogue, Endnotes, and Bibliography. The chapters are headed: (1) The Origins of Alberta's Oil Sands development Policies, 1930-1954; (2) The Early Technology of the Oil Sands, 1951-1962; (3) The Politics of Over-Supply, 1955-1969; (4) Crisis Management in Athabasca, 1970-1981; (5) The Modern Technologies of Athabsca. This copy is punched for three holes, and bound in a three-holed card folder, with a typed paper label to the front cover. It is in very good condition, with no markings to text. Given the present importance of the Alberta tar sands, and the vast amounts of highly refined oil and gas products exported to the United States from the Athabasca oil fields, this is an exceptionally important historic document.
