Articles of note include pieces on the Battle of Atlantic, the capture of U- boat 505, the saving of the carrier Franklin after attack off Japan, and the German surrender (including text of same) with photos of liberating the Jews. Also includes much info for personnel such as rules on mustering-out pay. 80 pages.

  U.S.S. Lunga Point CVE 94: A Pictorial Log Covering the Ship's Career in the War Against the Axis
Raleigh, North Carolina, Edwards & Broughton, 1945. Hard Cover, Folio - over 12" - 15" tall, Very Good/No DJ, as Issued, Hard-to-find history in nice clean condition. Tightly bound with only a small bit of wear to corners and crown and tail of spine and a small bump to front edge. Contents very clean. Printed on glossy paper. Small penciled gift inscription dated 1945 on back of tan free endpaper could easily be erased if desired. Attractive map endpapers in green on cream paper show light foxing. Book is large, measuring 12-1/4" tall. 240 pages. Lavishly photo illustrated, but also much text telling the history of a ship which received five battle stars and a Presidential Unit Citation for its service in WWII as an escort carrier transporting bombers. It was named for Lunga Point on the northern coast of Guadacanal, the site of a naval battle which took place between American and Japanese forces in November, 1942. The U.S.S. Lunga logged its first ship entry on May 14, 1944 and went on to an illustrious career in the Pacific.

Book was published to provide a record of the part played by the National Lamp Works, a division of General Electric, during WWI.Part one is devoted to the military service records of employees, while Part II delves into the company's engineering, development and research contributions in the area of chemical warfare, glass technology, x-ray tubes and vacuum tubes, and the Nela Research Laboratory. Part Three centers on war relief and education, including War Study Clubs, The Sock League, Red Cross centers within National and the Nela Fund.Part IV looks at how funds were "mobilized" while Part V focuses on war gardens at National properties. Excellent black and white photographs throughout. 380 pages, plus index. Wonderful genealogical resource, but perhaps the most interesting aspect is the info on chemical warfare.
