| NO AUTHOR Petrolager Vintage Ad Cards "Seven Stages of Man" ( Nos. 1-3) , Chicago: Petrolager Laboratories. /, Very Good/Stiff Cardboard. White emulsified mineral oil -- does it get any better than that? Yecccchhh! But there was a day when digestive difficulties were cured with a spoonful or two of this old faithful. These humorous cards -- there were originally seven, but we have the first three only -- were designed to show the consumer that the product is useful from infancy to old age. Each measures 4x8-3/4" and shows a figure drawn in browns and reds against a white background. At the bottom there is a black band with a picture of the product and the company logo, as well as the information that there were five types of Petrolager. No date, but we're guessing by the clothing they are definitely pre-1950. The first one features a rear view of a baby with droopy diapers. The second shows a happy kid with a pinwheel skipping the light fantastic wearing high top tennies, short pants, dress shirt, tie, sweater vest and sportcoat, while the third shows a young man smoking a pipe and wearing plaid pants, a fur coat, and a hat with two books tucked under his arm. It's interesting to note that Edgar Cayce mentioned Petrolager 125 times by brand in his health readings. The latter two cards are especially nice. The first has a little light soiling and one small crease at lower left corner. Scarce -- especially three consecutive cards. Will scan images upon request.
