MULTIPLE AUTHORS  Harper's Monthly Magazine, Vol. XCII, 1896
New York, Harper's Monthly, 1896. Full-Leather, Good/No DJ, as Issued, The date on the spine says 1896, but book actually begins with the Christmas issue of 1895 -- and what an issue it is with sketches by the incomparable artist, Howard Pyle, perhaps best known for his pirate book. This is a massive volume, leatherbound, with wonderful decorative edges all around. In its pages you will find a little bit of everything -- history, humor, fiction, even the occasional play or poem. Kate Douglas Wiggin can be found, as can a piece on George Washington by Woodrow Wilson, an article by Theodore Roosevelt on military history and a really great long piece continued over several issues entitled "On Snow Shoes To The Barren Grounds," by Caspar Whitney which has superb illustrations and takes the reader on a first person journey through the land of the Cree, Blackfoot and Sarcee Indians. Book is remarkably clean with a reneforced binding and great book feel. A few early pages have loosened at top and there is one section of four at center that came loose altogether, but we have very nicely tipped it inl. A whopping 976 pages with lots of illustration and a special section featuring holiday books by Harper & Brothers. Fascinating primary source for the historian and just fun for everybody else
