There is wear to extremities and foxing at front and back, only on reverse sides and opposite pages of lavender marbeled endpapers. The rest of the text is clean as a whistle. A former owner's attractive old bookplate is affixed to front pastedown. Borrow was a noted British linguist and travel writer of his day and this is perhaps his most remembered book. In it he describes a trip to Wales in the summer of 1854 where he hiked in the north and extensively toured the south. Book measures 11" across and 9" tall and is printed on glossy paper with lavish illustration of the grounds and house, all done in color photographs. Also includes two vintage photos of the Ford family. The house was built on the shores on Lake St. Clair in the 1920's and resembles a series of Cotswold cottages strung together. Though grand in design, it was not built to be anything other than a family home and yet it stands as a monument to amazing architecture and design, as well as to a time of grandeur long past. The house has 60 rooms and fabulous furnishings and appointments and the book features many of them while offering commentary along the way.
