Lively text traces the school's history from the conundrum upon which it was built. Roberta Bole, it seemed, wanted a top-notch education for her two sons and wanted James Hawken of New York to tutor them in Cleveland. But he didn't want to. What he did want was a private schoiol and Roberta Bole to help him get it. She, however did not want THAT. But 75 years later there are no less than 13 Bole family members listed as alumni and students of The Hawken School. 359 pages.

Cover is a shiny metallic gold showing only minor wear. Pages and page edges pristine. The book will arrive with the following: a newspaper clipping of the alumni choir singing at the 50th celebration; a letter, ticket and itinerary for the celebration; a card printed with the alma mater; an alumni crostic puzzle (unused); another letter from the school with historical highlights; and the Garfield 50th Anniversary Souvenir Issue of the school Paper, The President.

Book was the result of a commission by the Kellogg Foundation to study the results of its efforts to help museums realize their full potential as educational opportunities. Study examined the effect of the Kellogg Projects at The Exploratorium in San Francisco, the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, and the Smithsonian.

R.B.P 4-15-97" There is also a note tipped in at front free endpaper on Pipes' stationery which reads "----------- I hope you enjoy reading about the history of Rensselaer. See you in Akron." Book measures 9"x11-1/4" and is nicely illustrated throughout with both art and black and white photographs, many of which had never been previously published. 216 pages. Indexed.

PURINTON, EDWARD EARLE  The Purinton Foundation Course in Personal Efficiency and How to Master the New Science of Personal Efficiency (9 Volume set)
New York, Independent Corporation, 1918, First Edition. Soft Cover, Very Good to Good/, Nine paperback volumes comprise this hard-to-find set -- eight of which are the original course in personal efficiency (lesson seven is divided into two parts, hence two books) and one of which is the master book offered to the graduate of the program. All measure 8"x11" and were designed as a home study course. The course itself is internally clean and tightly bound with all volumes clearly dated on front 1918. All but two are very good and those are marred by spotting to covers. Edward Purinton (1878-1945) was a widely read author in the self-help field in his day. He also wrote a great deal about the benefits of fasting.

Schnitker M.D.; Best wishes in music, Walt." Book is housed in nice brown slipcase, the only defect being a loosening of outer paper at face -- lower right corner. Could be manufacturing defect. Does not detract. Book measures 5-1/4"x11" A concise, but thorough history of the college with numerous vintage photos. 117 pages.
