FENN, PATRICIA; MALPA, ALFRED P.  Rewards of Merit
, The Ephemera Society of America, 1994, First Printing. Hard Cover with dust jacket, Oblong, New/New, Brand new copy -- NOT a remainder. Dustjacket protected by brand new mylar cover. An exquisite volume on an esoteric, but fascinating, topic. Throughout the history of American education teachers have given children small, inexpensive, mass-produced cards rewarding them for deportment or academic achievement. Most of these little cards, like balls of string, candy wrappers and other treasures of childhood, eventually got lost. Fortunately, some survived, glued perhaps in scrapbooks for remembrance so that their amazing graphics can be appreciated many generations later. Seemingly insignifcant, these pretty little cards have a story to tell -- not only about art, decorating and printing modes of the day, but about education as well. A gorgeous, graphic feast of a book with more text than you could imagine such a narrow subject to engender. 224 pages. Indexed. A must for the ephemera collector, a unique gift for a teacher.
