  La Basilica Di Santa Maria Nuova in Monreale (42 Postcards in original box)

Near Fine in Good Sleeve/, A most beautiful set of vintage postcards, each of which depicts a different mosaic, replete with its golden tile background, as seen in the the Basilica Di Santa Maria Nuova in Mondreale, Sicily. The cathedral was built in the 12th century and within its Romaneque walls is a unique blend of Arab, Byzantium and Norman styles, truly a place where Christan and Muslim art meet.The cards are numbered sequentially and are captioned, as are the tiles, in either Latin or Greek. An English explanation appears on the the reverse side. The cards, all of which depict relogious scenss, are edged in gilt on all four sides and fit into their own decorative sleeve which shows a small bit of wear. No writing on any card and all are postally unused. They are not dated.

Tightly bound with no cracking to hinges and only mild external wear. Pages clean. Small number written on title page. Bound copies of the popular magazine span May 1909 to October 1909. Beautiful illustrations, including some in full color. Of special interest are articles on British Rule in India; divorce; Edgar Alan Poe's child wife; Shackleton and the South Pole, and best of all, Robert Fulton's invention of the steamship (spans more than one issue) including his own accounts in letters and manuscripts previously unpublished and replete with drawings and photos.

Text explains the houses from which the items derived and include the Darwin D. Martin house, Buffalo, New York; the Avery Coonley house of Riverside, Illinois; and the Francis W. Little house of Wayzata, Minnesota.

This colelction was to have gone to the Musee Guimet, Paris, but transfer could not be made due to the outbreak of WWII. Katchadourian died three years after the sale at the age of 61.

  Lee Weiss Watercolors III (SIGNED)
Madison, Wisconsin, Whinchell Art Publications, 1990. Soft Cover, Oblong, Near Fine/, Gorgeous art calatog in excellent condition. Very clean and nice with just a tiny speck of wear to tail of spine. Large size -- 11" across by 8-1/2" tall. SIGNED and inscribed by artist on title page thus, "To ..., With Best Wishes, Lee Weiss" Forty-two pages of exquisite paintings and explanatory notes. Weiss was a professor of economics at the University of Wisconsin for many years, but has also been a working artist with numerous exhibits nationwide and abroad, including France and Japan. Her awards are many and varied and she has also been commissioned by NASA and has participated in the White House Rotating Exhibit with one painting having been selected for the White House. Weiss is noted for the incredible light emanating from her work and has invented a technique of painting on both sides of the paper in watercolor and constantly turning the paper over so that the texture of the table and the paint itself is transferred. When a significant base is built up she allows it to suggest the theme. A lovely catalog of ethereal art.

Schreckengost, a Clevelander, was 94 at the time of this exhibition at the Cleveland Museum of Art and was the last survivor of the initial wave of industrial artists. He died in early 2008. Book contains an extensive text and has 174 pages.

Hard Cover with dust jacket, 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall, Very Good/Very Good, By far and away this first edition is our favorite Faberge book It's truly wonderful in its scholarship, accessibility and illustration, so whenever we find a nice copy we're very pleased. An added pleasure is the fact that the author actually knew Faberge and lived quite close to him.The book is clean and nice with no names or writing and is tightly bound with pristine red boards. The plain Jane dustjacket has been price-clipped and shows a few tiny edgetears, but is nonetheless handsome in brand new mylar. The thing about this jacket is that it belies the beauty within! Book is large at 9-1/4"x11-1/2" and is amply illustrated with both black and white and color photos throughout. Chapters discuss the family and the House of Faberge; Peter Carl Faberge the man; Faberge's art and craft; of course the Russian Imperial Easter eggs; Faberge in the Edwardian era and the Sandingham animals and flowers; the Faberge figurines in Russian Stones of Color; the workmasters of Faberge and the marks of Faberge. This is a heavy book and quite hefty due to its quality paper. 169 pages. Indexed
