Soft Cover, 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall, Good-plus/, Nice clean, solid book. Internals of book are crisp and clean -- without fault. Outwardly it is tightly bound with no spine crease, but does show light browning to top of front cover next to spine, a bit of edgewear to front and a few small rubbed spots, also to front. Book is, however, highly desirarable with its extensive photographs in both color and black and white, as well as its descriptions of the artifacts which comprised the traveling exhibit. The front section is printed on a dark tan paper, as is the color map at front and a second map at back. The title of the book derives from both the French and Ojibwa languages -- Bo'jou from the French Bonjour and Nee-jee from the Ojibwa word for friend. Together they formed a common greeting throughout the Canadian north during the fur trade. The exhibit was phenomenal, filled with rare early items including painted skins, decorated clothing, containers, clubs, pipes, paint sticks, porcupine quill weaving, shields, rattles, cradleboards, medicine bags, drums, headdresses, masks, knives, bitten-bark, beadwork, tomahawks, jewelry, dolls, arrows and baskets. There is also a section devoted to drawings and paintings depicting the period. Front of book contains essays. 204 pages. Hard Cover, Very Good/No DJ, This book was first published in 1926, so what we have here is a second edition, but a very nice clean one noteworthy for its excellent photographs of Native Americans and others who were actually on the battlefield with Custer. In addition to Graham's text there is a lengthy reprint at the back of the book from the January 1896 Journal of the Military Service Institution of the United States entitled The Campaign Against the Sioux in 1876 by Colonel Robert F. Hughes, Inspector General. The book features 26 illustrations, plus two fold-out maps and is interesting in that it was an early attempt to examine the myths that had arisen around Custer who quickly became a controversial figure. Book is very clean with light wear to extremities only. Clean page edges and no writing. There is a blank bookplate affixed to the front free endpaper.
