Two folio volumes in green cloth stamped in gilt and blind. lxxv, 574 pages in volume one; xv, 200 full page color plates in volume two. Laid in is a presentation card from he Buhl Foundation which underwrote the production of the book. A massive treatise on the wildflowers of the region with excellent illustrations covered by captioned tissue guards. A first class production. The covers show very light extremity wear, but they are otherwise clean and soundly bound. The jackets are reasonably complete but for a 1.5 square inch piece missing from the top front panel of volume two; some very minor shallow chipping to the rear panels of both volumes. Volume one has a long tear to the front panel and another to the front flap fold; volume two has a jagged triangular tear with associated creasing to the lower front panel and several short tears at and adjacent to the head of the spine. Rivington ,et al.,, 1726., Third Edition, corrected with additions, Hardcover. Hardback octavo in contemporary full brown calf. 432 pages illustrated by 12 copper plate engravings. The last 175 pages include the plates, tables, appendices, explanation of terms and a glossary , all of which are invaluable for illustrating the state of the subject in this time period. One plate is nearly detached and is therefore a little rough at edges without affecting content. The textblock edges are darkened, and the lower corner of the block has been scraped, or more likely, chewed, but again, no affect on the content. A very light small dampstain on and adjacent to gutter of about the first third of the book. Endpapers are toned by underlying leather. The covers have rounded corners and the rear cover foredge is quite worn, or perhaps chewed. The spine is significantly darkened but the gilt stamped red morocco label is perfectly readable. The surfaces of the covers are generally modestly soiled and moderately stained. All in all a sound unfoxed and complete copy of an important work. Good +. Moderate extremity wear with boards showing at corners; very shallow chipping at the bottom of the spine and a little fraying at the top. The interior is clean, unmarked and soundly bound. Large quarto in mustard / olive cloth decorated in red, green and gilt. 54 pages plus 24 color botanical lithographic plates. A PERSONALIZED INSCRIPTION, SIGNED, "THE AUTHOR", DATED 1907, AND ALSO SIGNED (FULL NAME) ON THE TITLE PAGE. All edges gilt; beveled boards. Light edge and extremity wear and a little fraying at the spine ends. The interior is clean, unmarked and soundly bound. Despite the wear, a very attractive copy. This book was later reprinted as Wild Flowers of the Rocky Mountains, and published a similar book on Wild Flowers of the Pacific Coast. Very Good+.
