Gilt stamped blue cloth. 274 pages illustrated by photographs. SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, with a short personalized inscription. An autobiography of one of the most celebrated woman pilots to come out of World War II. Sje recruited and trained the WASPS (Women's Air Force Service Pilots), and held many air speed records. Covers have light general soiling and very minor shelf wear. Front pastedown has a previous owner's tag (the recipient of the author's inscription). Text is lightly toned, but otherwise clean and sound. The jacket is complete but for shallow chipping and head of spine and along the top front panel. Folds are lightly worn with a bit of color loss. A pictorial history of the French developer of small, single engine aircraft for "Everyman", and the craze that followed in France and England, and later in the U.S. when operated in the Chicago area in the late 1930's. Blue cloth stamped in silver. 562 pages illustrated by a schematic of the plane; pictorial endpapers. A nice copy of Lindbergh's account of THE flight across the Atlantic. Basis of the movie starring Jimmy Stewart, directed by Billy Wilder. Light extremity wear and a touch of fading to the edges of the cover. Mild toning to the text. The last few leaves show evidence of a bump or abrasion at center top. One leaf slight out of line due to bindery error. The jacket is complete but for minor loss of material at the lower front tip. The spine is slightly darkened. Otherwise, modest edge wear; a couple of light surface abrasions on the spine; and a couple of short edge tears, the worst less than an inch on rear flap. Clean, bright, sound and unworn. Apparently no jacket issued. Fine.
