Of the subject of his book, he says: "[F]ew things are so easily, unavoidably lovely as the prairie churches." The black and white photographs display the simpicity of the architecture against a bleak landscape. A bright, clean, sound copy with covers just a little bowed. The jacket has light edge and extremity wear, and two tears with associated creasing on the rear panel: one of a half inch at top; the other, two inches plus at the bottom flap fold which then runs another inch diagonally in both directions. " along with two pages of reviews of the publisher's books and 10 preliminary pages including the table of contents; and finally, two pages of ads. An early and very important treatise on building skyscrapers with steel skeleton construction. It includes examples, with engravings and architectural drawing detail, of the Home Life Insurance Building, the Havemeyer Building, the Jackson Building, the Postal Telegraph Building, the New Netherland Building, the Waldorf Hotel, the Manhattan Life Insurance Building, all in New York, and the Old Colony Building in Chicago. A remarkably nice copy with just a bit of wear to the extremities and a little nick to the foredge of the rear cover. The inside is clean, unmarked and soundly bound, but with minimal toning. Near fine.

A history of the one of the most important of Chicago's architectural firms (in a city full of important architecture) and the buildings they built during a crucial period in the city's development. This is no coffee table book, but a very readable scholarly treatise illustrated to make its points. A bright and clean book, soundly bound, but with some light scratches to the front cover. There is also a minor binding flaw: the front hinge has a bead of cloth sticking up where there is ordinarily a gutter or indentation. The jacket is barely rubbed. Very Good in Near Fine Dustjacket.

A very impressive book, printed in Italy, about the late 19th - early 20th century architect and designer whose vision inspired the Surrealist movement in Barcelona that spawned both Picasso and Dali. A significantly expanded edition of the book first published in 1971. Minimal edge wear and a couple of light bumps to the covers; endpapers edge-toned apparently by glue transfer. Otherwise clean, bright and sound. The jacket is complete and untorn, but the top inch of the rear panel and the spine are lightly toned; the rear panel is a little scuffed. It shows 28 projects designed by the firm, most in Colorado including Denver International Airport, but several important projects from elsewhere and a few designs for projects in Asia. The book is clean, bright, sound and unworn but for a minor abrasion to the upper rear tip. The jacket shows minimal extremity wear. Near Fine in Near Fine Dustjacket.

The last 100 pages or so contain color advertising. The remainder is illustrated by captioned photographic plates of modern buildings organized by the firms which designed them. The captions and two page introduction in Spanish. The first page of the book is the title page so there is the possibility that some prelims are missing. Two previous owner notes on title page, both from Bogota. Inside otherwise clean and bright and soundly bound. The covers have light edge wear and corner bumps. There are also a couple of wrinkles to the cloth (binding flaw). The jacket is modestly rubbed and edgeworn; very shallow chipping at spine ends; and a 2-inch + tear at upper rear spine fold. Very Good in Very Good DJ.

Dustjacket.spine is seriously sunned with a long jagged tear in the lower half, moderate edge wear and some minor chipping at extremities, the worst being about a half-inch loss at the foot of spine. For all that, the jacket is complete and presentable. Very Good in Good DJ.

The jacket is generally lightly soiled with some darkening at the spine; obvious clear tape reinforcement at top and bottom of all folds. Minor loss of material at top spine folds and a tiny chip at center rear of the spine. A couple of inconsequential edge tears and a closed gouge on spine. Very Good+ in Very Good - DJ.

The covers have light wear to the edges. The jacket has moderate rubbing and edge wear but it is complete and with just a single tear of an inch at the top front panel.
