The first printed history of Uppsala University Library, written by its young vice director. Celsiusâ€™ appointment had been fiercely opposed by the Chief Librarian, Andreas Norrelius, and in 1746 he attacked the present work in a spiteful, anonymous pamphlet. Claes Annerstedt largely agreed with Norreliusâ€™ opinion of Celsius in his history of the university. However, more recent research by Gert Hornwall (1968) takes the opposite view and considers Celsiusâ€™ book to be a pioneering work in Swedish library history.
