| DE DILLMONT, THERESE (EDITOR) Encyclopedia of Needlework: New Edition, Revised and Enlarged (DMC Library) Alsace, DMC Library. First Thus. Cloth, 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. Olive green boards with black inlay print and design show moderate shelfwear with no major flaws. The rear board has some light staining and the forward edge of the front board shows a dark stain about 1.5" long. Spine is sound and hinges are tight. Interior is tight and unmarked. No foxing. No date is given for this edition, nor is there reference to copies sold, nor are there color plates as in later editions. Mme de Dillmont is listed as the editor, but is perhaps a descendant of the original author, because there is a preface by the original Mme de Dillmont and a "Note of the Editor" referring to the hopes of the Mme de Dillmont expressed in the preface. The appearance of the book would suggest a late 19th or early 20th century printing. The original Mme de Dillmont apparently died in 1890. 789 pp plus endmatter 42 pp. DMC was apparently a company manufacturing cotton and other threads. Endmatter contains tables of numbers of the 500 shades of color for the dyeing of cotton and flax articles sold by DMC, labels and thickness guides for various types of thread, and illustrations from various other works by the author.
