| SHAKESPEARE, WILLIAM, EDITED BY J. O. HALLIWELL AND OTHERS The Complete Works of Shakspere, Revised from the Original Editions...in Four Volumes: Comedies, Tragedies, Histories (Including Poems) , and Doubtful Plays London, England: The London Printing and Publishing Company, Ltd, N.D.. Hardcover. 1/2-leather bindings, black leather spines with five raised bands and red spine labels, and with black leather corners, over brown pebbly leather-like cloth; owner's name ("C. Van Buren") stamped in gilt in diamond-shaped leather labels on front covers; other decorations in gilt. Bindings are a little scuffed on their spines and faces and are a little rubbed at their edges, especially at spine ends and corners. There is some light dampstaining in all volumes, mainly affecting some of the frontispieces and some of the plate pages, which seem to have wicked up moisture more avidly than their surrounding pages, most of which seem almost unaffected by the moisture. The dampstaining occurs mainly at the margins of the affected plates, but with a few affected plates the staining extends into part of the plate. Throughout the four volumes there are also occasional minor smudges and spots of foxing on the text pages. All volumes are square, tightly bound, and clean inside. It will cost more than the standard rate to ship this large book by Priority Mail or to places outside the U. S. ; Many B & W full-page steel engravings, mostly showing scenes from the plays; many plates are based on daguerrotypes and depict actors of the late nineteenth century. All plates have tissue protectors. This is the four-volume edition, including the volume of Doubtful Plays. A very sturdy, still handsome set. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 576/496/488/484 pages.
