Frontis: colour plate. 12pp beautifully illustrated with 16 colour plates. Pages clean and bright in firm binding, with no water staining on inside pages. The 16 colour plates in this book reproduce in facsimile some of the most beautiful coloured lithographs of the period of the Romantic Ballet. During this time, from about 1840to 1850, Marie Taglioni, Fanny Elssler, Carlotta Grisi and Fanny Cerrito were al at the height of their fame, and their ballets included Giselle, Ondine and La Peri. The illustrations include other ballerinas and ballets of the Romantic Ballets, as well as these more famous ones. Sacheverell Sitwell who contributes a sympathetic Introduction and series of Notes on the Plates, is recognised as a leading authority on this period of the history of ballet. Very Good/Very Good.
