Paris:: Simon Benard, 1681. Delphin edition. Full calf. Important 1681 Delphin edition edited by J. Proust. Contemporary full calf, spine gilt in compartments, raised bands, morocco label, gilt armorial device to both upper and lower boards, engraved frontis. (L. Cossin), [xvi]+563pp+vocabulorum+privilege. Label partially chipped away, Upper joint cracked but still strong, engraving repaired and inserted as first page (some off-setting of this engraving appears on the errata). A particularly lovely copy, complete, probably never read. Michael Clapham's bookplate dated 1932 to paste-down and, in his hand, the following note has been loosely inserted: "The armorial stamp is that of Louis Engillbert Marie Joseph Auguste, duc et prince d' Arenberg, chevalier de l'Orde de la Toison d'Or, 3 August 1750 - 7 march 1820."the Delphin 4to of 1681 seems to be the most expensive of all these critical editions. Messrs. Payne & Foss elevate it to the price of 21.12 6d. I know it to be a rare book." Dibdin 1824".. Very Good .
