HOEHLING, A.A. AND HOEHLING, MARY  The Last Voyage of the Lusitania
London, Longmans, Green and Co. 1957, First U.K. Edition. Cloth, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. RMS Lusitania was a British luxury ocean liner owned by the Cunard Line and built by John Brown and Company of Clydebank, Scotland. Christened and launched on Thursday, 7 June 1906, Lusitania met a disastrous end as a casualty of the First World War when she was torpedoed by the German submarine U-20 on 7 May 1915. The great ship sank in just 18 minutes, eight miles (15 km) off the Old Head of Kinsale, Ireland, killing 1,198 of the people aboard. The sinking turned public opinion in many countries against Germany, and was probably a major factor in the eventual decision of the United States to join the war in 1917. Some people believe that the ship was a blockade runner, and thus a legitimate target. It is often considered by historians to be the second most famous civilian passenger liner disaster after the sinking of Titanic. From the library of Naval Historian and author James W. Goss. Fine/No Jacket.

ADAMS, THOMAS A.  A History of the Irish Naval Service
Kendal, Irish Academic Press. 1994, First Edition. (ISBN: 0716525232) Hardcover with dust jacket, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. This book chronicles the important role of Ireland's seabourne military forces in the Civil War and in the Emergency and explains the rebirth of the Irish Naval Service in the late twentieth century. Ever since the Boreal Seas rose sufficiently to form the islands of Ireland and Britain some 8000 years ago, both have been dependant on water transport for their being. Their history has been formed by the sea from the days of the later Stone Age cultures to the present. In this century there have been so many changes to the approach of the Irish to the sea that Aidan McIvor's book is both timely and necessary. Much has been written about the manifold problems of Ireland and many books deal with her extraordinary history. But this is a book in a different category. Based on a great deal of research, it is the tale of the maritime country which, since the Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921, has consistently turned her back to the sea unless unusual events have caused a temporary change of heart. From the library of Naval Historian and author James W. Goss. Fine/Very Good.

ENGLISH, ADRIAN AND WATTS, ANTHONY  Battle for the Falklands: Naval Forces Book 2
London, Osprey Publishing. 1982, First Edition. (ISBN: 0850454921) Paperback, 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. In the early hours of the chilly late-autumn morning, April 2 1982, substantial forces of Argentine Marines, with heavy naval and air support, had invaded the Falkland islands, quickly and almost bloodlessly overwhelming a token garrison of Royal Marines. The following day Argentine forces also invaded the Falklands dependency of South Georgia, forcing the garrison of just 22 Royal Marines to surrender, though not before they had inflicted disproportionately heavy losses on their attackers. The authors examine the naval forces of both sides who fought in the battle for the Falklands. From the library of Naval Historian and author James W. Goss. Very Good.
