(by M & N Hanhart of a photo taken by L. Caldesi & Co.) within a gilt border of Faure, Patti & Mario from a scene in Faust. These singers toured a famous production in Britain in the 1860's. Adelina Patti was the most highly paid singer of her day. The tenor Giovanni Mario (former name Giovanni Matteo de Candia) was considered one of the finest voices ever to be heard. Lithograph of Sims Reeves to cover, by J.H. Lynch (M&N Hanhart). Signed by Frank Mori to lower left corner. Frank Mori (1820-1873) was a composer and conductor and the son of Nicolas Mori. He studied with W.S. Bennett and later (1836) had lessons from P.-J.-G. Zimmermann in Paris. A well-known London musician, he directed and managed the short-lived London Orchestra (established 1854), which gave concerts in its own right and was available for hire. He composed a cantata Fridolin (Worcester Festival, 1851), an operetta The River Sprite (Covent Garden, 9 February 1865, vocal score, London, 1865) on a libretto of George Linley, and many songs and ballads (information from Grove online 2005). He studied with W.S. Bennett and later (1836) had lessons from P.-J.-G. Zimmermann in Paris. A well-known London musician, he directed and managed the short-lived London Orchestra (established 1854), which gave concerts in its own right and was available for hire. He composed a cantata Fridolin (Worcester Festival, 1851), an operetta The River Sprite (Covent Garden, 9 February 1865, vocal score, London, 1865) on a libretto of George Linley, and many songs and ballads (information from Grove online 2005).
