Seeing at first hand the impressive antiquities that Nordenskiold's physical and intellectual efforts had been instrumental in both publicizing and ultimately protecting, the author, upon returning home to Sweden, set about compiling in English this biography along with translating many of the relevant field records and diaries that originally had been written in Swedish.
