  Angelika Filmbills
New York, Entropy Design. 1993, 1st Edition. Paper, A wonderful collection of 33 different copies of the now defunct Angelika Filmbill that was given out free at the Angelika theatre in New York City. The programs date from November 1993 to March 2002 when the theatre stopped publication. Each program was usually 40pgs. and were filled with reviews of the films shown along with interviews with filmmakers, soundtrack reviews and more. The Angelika is known for showing independent American and foreign films. Also laid in are handbills with short notes on films and some of the newer not as nice foldover programs that have taken the place of the more fancy programs. Sold as a collection only.

Illustrated with many stills and photos including several written tributes. Fine. LAID IN IS A SMALL 3" X 5" CARD THAT HAS BEEN SIGNED BY MS. STANWYCK IN INK. Also laid in is a small 4pg. fold-over program for a small retrospective of Stanwyck's films that was held at BAMcinematek in Brooklyn. Includes notes and stills and a beautiful portrait of her circa 1940 on the front of a notecard.

NY Roxy Theatre 1927. November 12 1927. Paper, Nice 28pg.small program for the late great movie palace. The program is from Nov. 12th 1927,the first year that the Roxy was in operation. Film shown was the forgotten "2 Girls Wanted" that starred Janet Gaynor. Frnt. color artwork of the theatre and lots of wonderful ads inside. Covers are loose and the front has a small piece missing from the white margin along with light chipping, the insides are fine.

Hollywood, New Line Cinema. 1999, Original Edition. Small Paper, A very handsome very uncommon 74pg. promo booklfor Paul Thomas Anderson's masterpiece "Magnolia." The book is illustrated with color portraits of the cast printed on heavy stock paper. Opposite each portrait is an except scene from the screenplay that features the character. Each portrait also has vellum overlays with quotes from the scene printed on them. There is a corner crease to the top edge of the front cover which is lightly mirrored to the vellum title pg. There is no text or credits in the book. Vg. Scarce.

Illustrated with many b&w historical photos along with stills including some color photos. Also includes historical documentation and short essays both factual and on the making of the movie, but does not include any of the actors or filmmakers bios or credits for the film which I find odd.

Laid in are 15 original 8" x 10" collection of very dramatic stills with the exception of the one of the producer of the film. The film starred Meryl Streep (in an early unlikely role) and Jack Nicholson with a screenplay by William Kennedy based on his Pulitzer Prize winning novel. Scarce stuff. Fine.

(ISBN: 0060161426) Boards & Cloth with Dustjacket, Novel about a very troubled family that was made into a grim movie in 1997 directed by Paul Schrader with Nick Nolte, Sissy Spacek and James Coburn who won a supporting actor Oscar for his performance as Nolte's abusive father. A touch of soiling to the top edge, and there is a light impression of a paper clip to the top corner of the front endsheet and is lightly mirrored to some pages. Nice artwork dustjacket. Also included is a 24pg. promo book with 2 stills and a four pg. foldover brochure for the DVD release laid in. Sold as a collection only.

PRINTED IN RED AND BLACK WITH MANY PHOTOS THIS WAS A SILENT FILM VERSION OF MOBY DICK THAT STARRED BARRYMORE AND HIS WIFE DOLORES COSTELLO. THERE IS ALSO AN ADD OFR DON JUAN AND A SMALL INK NOTATION ON 1 PG. Nice.

Paper, A very nice and uncommom 6pg. foldover program for a series of films by the cult director Donald Cammell (Demon Seed, Peformance, White of The Eye) that was held at the Walter Reade Theatre in New York City. Sadly Cammell took his own life in 1996. Illustrated with some stills and notes on each film shown. Fine.

CLEMENT, RENE  Forbidden Games, (The Secret Game, Les Jeux Interdits) Small Program
United Kingdom, International Film Distributors. 1952, First Printing. Small Paper, Small 4 1/2" x 6" 8pg. program for the British showing of "Forbidden Games" that was titled in Britain as "The Secret Game." The program is printed on light green paper and includes bio. info. about the cast and crew + a synopsis of the plot which concerns two small children in war torn France. The cast included Brigitte Fossey who was only 5 years old and made a lasting impression. The film went on to win a best foreign film Oscar in 1952 when it was still an honorary award and is probably Rene Clement's best know and certainly his best loved film. The front cover is illustrated with a drawing of Fossey & Georges Poujouly, the back cover has a text ad for Menotti's "The Medium" with a 12 line note on the film by Jean Cocteau. Soft corner crease to the bottom of the program, staples rusting. Vg. and very uncommon.
