| Female Japanese Theatrical Revue Magazines Japan, 1953. Paper, TEXT IN JAPANESE. Three rare magazines for Japanese theatrical revues that featured only women. Each magazine is well illustrated with photographs of the stars of the revues. Two of the magazines appear to be from the same theatrical company. All three have beautiful full color covers. One of the magazines have page folds due to the binding otherwise all are vg. The best example of this kind of theatrical presentation can be found in the film "Sayonara" in which Marlon Brando has a forbidden love affair with the star of the Matsubayashi Theater Revue. Since I don't read Japanese these magazines might very well be from that company. On page 8 Van Vechten has marked a paragraph in which Amory talks about Vanity Fair giving recognition to Negro personalities and authors. In additon Van Vechten has SIGNED HIS NAME ON HIS CONTRIBUTION TO HIS LIST OF THE DULLEST AUTHORS. HE HAS ALSO SIGNED HIS NAME AT THE TOP OF HIS ARTICLE "THE BLACK BLUES" & ALSO HAS SIGNED HIS NAME ABOVE THE SMALL PORTRAIT OF HIMSELF BY NICKOLAS MURRAY & ALSO HAS SIGNED HIS NAME ABOVE AND BELOW HIS SMALL PORTRAIT OF THE STAGE DESIGNER AND LONG TIME LOVER OF THOMAS WOLFE ALINE BERNSTEIN. Van Vechten was a man of many talents including writing but he is most known for his wonderful portraits that he took over a long lifetime. Married for a long time to the actress Fania Marinoff he never the less led a closeted gay life. The dustjacket has a small touch of wear and some very small chipping. Fine/vg+.
