Printed and Sold by T. Bickerston. Circa 1870. London.. Cloth. Illustrations. Title continued: ".(or Principal Customers) of each House; in a Method so Plain that any Thirsty Person (of the Meanest Capacity) may easily find the Nearest Way from one House to Another". Pages 45-48 have small piece of top edge missing; does not affect text. Page edges are uncut. Following is a partial example of a description of a Publick House: "The Magpye now, that Party-colour'd Gipsie, Calls on its Guests to enter and be Tipsie, Not only to regale their Taste but Sight, and Gives to every sense an Appetite; etc.". On the bottom of some pages are very brief descriptions of other Publick Houses such as: "Old Winter, at the Stones-end, sells excellent Bub, and has a Parrot that swears as fast as a Dragoon"; "N ag's Head near St. George's Church; -- Who is always possess'd of as many Buts of humming Bibble, as there are Days in the Year"; "Magpye and Bear, both at the Bridge-foot, good Beer"; etc.

This copy not numbered or signed on the limitation page. From Nell O'Day, A Catalog of Books Printed by John Henry Nash, pages 97-98: "..an interesting tale of the (18)90's set in one of the lovely vineyard districts of California. Mrs. Colburn is an authority on grape culture, her book entitled "Wines and Vines" published in 1889 heuing a source book on the subject. "In Old Vintage Days" is a colorful romance with the facts of the wine war that took place at the turn of the century, resulting in havoc to many of the California grape grower. It gives a vivid picture of the pleasant mode of living among tghe prosperous vintners which, as Mrs. Colburn say in her Foreword, will never be entirely relived." 178 pages, plujs colophon. As New.
