| Autograph Document Signed. "Jessie Slack vs. Andrew Spear." . Two signed documents from Windsor County, Vermont 1785 dealing with "Jessie Slack vs. Andrew Spear". The first manuscript (4 x 6 1/2 inch) dated June 28, 1784 states that Andrew Spear agrees to pay Jeesie Slack six pounds in the form of wheat. It is signed by Spear. The second document (7 1/2 x 6 1/2 inch) dated May 12th 1785 the Constable of Reading, Vermont is ordered to summon Spear to Court for nonpayment of his debt. It is signed by Briant Brown, clerk. Also signing on the backside by David Davis, attesting to the fact that he has left a copy of the summons with Spear. David Davis (1748-1796) of Vermont served as a corporal in the Revolutionary War. | Civilian Exclusion Order No. 95 (and) Instructions to All Persons of Japanese Ancestry: Two Original Posters for the County of Ventura, State of California Presidio of San Francisco, California, Western Defense Command and Fourth Army. 1942. The two posters, 14 inches by 22 inches, printed on cream colored thin paper with bold, black ink, inform people of Japanese ancestry that they were going to be excluded from: "All of the County of Ventura, State of California". In the first poster they are told to report to the "Civilian Control Station located at 322 South California Street, Ventura, California" on April 24 and 25, 1942 between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. The second poster tells of the criminal penalties for not reporting. There were 110 different locations in California, Oregon and Washington where people of Japanese descent were told to report and two posters were issued for each place. They were printed in a very small run, with only enough for the posting in each area and two sets of file copies and one set for a California library. A fine set of these rare and fragile posters with some creasing, margins only. Fine. | Committee's Report on Gas Explosion at State Capitol. August 13th 1899. To the Honorable Comptroller of the State of Connecticut. Hartford, Conn, 1900. Typed document signed January 23rd, 1900 (2 pages. 8 1/2 x 13 inches). Three person committee reprts the the State Comptroller that based on its examination of evidence, that the gas explosion at the State Capitol on August 23, 1899 was caused by gas escaping from the pipes leading to the gas laterns. The committee report further states that the accident was "Purely and accident". It was signed by Edward Mahl, James ?? . and Geo H. Gilbert. Also included is a 6 pages typed transcript of testimony related to the investion (8 x 13 inch). Very Good.
