  Bloomsbury Railroad Iron Company, Manuscript Collection, Five Documents, 13 Pages, Philadelphia, PA 1853
1853. The Bloomsbury Railroad Iron Company was jointly owned, according to the documents, by Joseph Paxton, Wm. R. Rodman, Charles W. Rodman, William Logan Fisher, and Charles W. Fisher. This small manuscript collection consists of a legal opinion on how to change the corporate structure of the company, a reaction to that opinion, and three draft resolutions on how to accomplish the restructure. The two main documents are: (1) Draft legal opinion by John M. and L. A. Scott, April 14, 1853, Philadelphia. The law firm suggests that either an Association or General Partnership be formed. (Document measures 7 1/2 x 12, handwritten, three sheets, six pages, sheets are held together by a pin [like a small stick pin] in the upper left corner; document had been folded in fourths; fine condition). (2) "Observations upon John M.Scott's Opinion.." This document is not signed. The author states that he would like a structure that involves less individual owner liabilities and more tax benefits. Three pages (blank fourth page), measures 7 1/2 x 12 1/2. Fine copy. Both documents written in clear, legible handwriting. The three remaining draft resolutions consist of: (3) Single white sheet, 8 x 10, notes concerning taxes; (4) Single blue sheet, 8 x 10, notes concerning selling all the property, real and personal; (5) Single blue sheet, two pages, 8 1/2 x 13 1/2, draft, authorization to sell real and personal property.

  Boston and Albany Railroad: Collection of Documents and Manuscripts, Circa 1900
Boston. In 1900, the assets of the Boston and Albany Railroad were leased by the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad. Some Boston and Albany shareholders opposed the lease as offered, stating that it offered too little in comparison to past earnings and might lead to deterioration of the railroad's assets. This collection consists of 15 documents and manuscripts, totaling 70 pages. An inventory of the collection: Printed petition "To the Stockholders of the Boston and Albany Railroad" with the printed names of 58 large stockholders asking that the lease as offered be rejected. 1 page. 8 1/2 x 14 inches. Annotated typewritten list of stockholders holding over 100 shares of the Boston and Albany Railroad. Also lists number of shares held. 17 pages. Legal research. (Author not named). Analysis of court cases regarding the jurisdfiction of states over railroads which were incorporated in another state. 5 holograph pages. Legal research (Author not named). 1939. Large envelope (18 1/2 x 16 1/2 inch) with central legend and signed pictures, surrounded by spaces for stamps canceled in each county. 25 of them filled with stamps and canceled (North and South America). The countries visited are: United States; Canada; Cuba; Haiti; Dominican Republic; Honduras; Mexico; Guatemala; El Salvador; Nicaragua; Costa Rica; Panama; Canal Zone; Colombia; Venezuela; Ecuador; Peru; Bolivia; Chile; Argentina; Uruguay; Paraguay; Brazil; Trinidad & Tobago; Surinam (Dutch Guiana). The Flying Hutchinson Family (parents and two daughters) left Washington, DC on a scheduled 87 country flight around the world, but headed home in June because of the impending war in Europe. The flight, in the plane "Amicitia" was sponsored by Ivory Soap Co. An opening below the central legend with inserted address to "Geo. R. Hutchinson, General Delivery, Washington, DC" under a clear cover. Interesting and unusual. Very Good.

Marie known as the 'Soo Canal' which was the busiest canal in the world, ca.1915. First built by the North West Fur Company in 1798 and constantly remodeled thru the years. It is a mile and a half long with a series of locks. Image of two lake transport ships and tug as the doors of the lock are opening. Clean copy. Fine.
