Autographe dedication of the daughter of Plana (Sophie Plana) to the first volume and the Supplément. Covers are lightly soiled and rubbed, but still solid and in good condition. Inside pages are uncut, some soiling at the beginning of volume II, otherwise inside pages are fresh and in very good condition. The work is donated to Cavalier Alessandro Dorna, Chairman of the Académie des Sciences and Director of the Royal Observatory of Turin. "This monumental work is the result of a vast amount of astronomical calculations: in the nineteenth century, the question of the motion of the Moon continued to play a significant interest, not only as a special case of the movement of the three bodies, but also for eminently practical reasons, first of which the calculation of longitudes at sea."
