WOOD, PETER  Unbelievable Years
Playa Del Rey, Ca.: Littlepage Press, 1969. First Edition. 8vo blue cloth w/gilt lettering. Fine, author's name missing from spine; Long inscription by the author on the fly-leaf: "Betty Dunn - A collectors' item, only 300 printed before the mistake was discovered that the binder failed to put the name one the cover and spine. Not Saleable, but readable. Pete Wood - Aug 7, 1971". You will find here between the lines the author's pungent views about Alaska, just as Peter Wood told it for the first time in national magazines and in his weekly magazine, Alaska Newsletter. Apparently unimpressed by Democratic political leaders, he denounced as phony the invitation by President Franklin Roosevelt for all returning servicemen to "settle the Great Land" as well as Governor Ernest Gruening's prediction that Alaska would have one million new population "immediately following the cessation of hostilities". Alaska today, the author claims, would be the worst Appalachia under the American flag were it not for the discovery of oil in volume, and oil permits and taxes are carrying the State budget right now. The author has included some of his touching poems. In one chapter the author describes his situation from rags to riches. ; Photos; 243pp pages. Dust Jacket is fine .
