Apparently unimpressed by Democratic political leaders, he denounced as phony the invitation by President Franklin Roosevelt for all returning servicemen to "settle the Great Land" as well as Governor Ernest Gruening's prediction that Alaska would have one million new population "immediately following the cessation of hostilities". Alaska today, the author claims, would be the worst Appalachia under the American flag were it not for the discovery of oil in volume, and oil permits and taxes are carrying the State budget right now.
