Original Invitation to the Preview Showing of Otto Preminger's Feature Film "Porgy and Bess": "Mr. Samuel Goldwyn Requests the Pleasure of Your Attendance at a Preview of His Motion Picture Porgy and Bess. Tuesday Evening June 23rd, 1959 at 8: 30 P.M. Warner Theatre, Broadway at 47th Street, New York City".
New York, 1959. 1959. - A large 8-1/2 inch high by 11 inch wide invitation embossed in black on textured white stock with an attached integral blank leaf. The text of the invitation is centered on the card with the date and location embossed at bottom right and a request that the recipient "R.S.V.P." at bottom left. There is minor soiling with light corner creases or bumping. Very good. Based on the 1935 opera by George & Ira Gershwin and DuBose Heyward, the 1959 American musical film was directed by Otto Preminger. Starring Sidney Poitier and Dorothy Dandridge, with a screenplay by N. Richard Nash, "Porgy and Bess" was Samuel Goldwyn's last project. The subject matter was still considered controversial at the time and the movie drew mixed reviews. It had few showings beyond its initial reserved seats engagements and, nearly unavailable for home video, it is considered one of the more prestigious "lost films". It was chosen for inclusion in the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress in 2011. "Porgy and Bess" opened on June 24th, this invitation is for the June 23rd preview screening. Very good .
