Printed title, verso blank, fine cut of the Royal Coat of Arms to start of dedication - 3ff. "The Preface."-2ff. Concordance; 1B a - 6P 4 b. Clean English text in triple columns. Light water stain to top of each of the last 4 leafs - not detracting tftom the overall appearence of the book. Contemporary full calf. Original red leather label and 5 raised bands to spine. Hinges andspine show signs of careful strengthening at some time in the past. Overall a rather good copy. ** Alexander Cruden (1699-1770) educated at Marischal College, Aberdeen, MA; secretary to the tenth Earl of Derby, 1729 but discharged on account of his ignorance of French in the same year. Became a tutor in the Isle of Man and then a bookseller in the Royal Exchange in 1732. Published his Concordance in 1737; became insane, 1738; escaped from confinement, that same year. He belived himself divinely appointed to reform the nation and received great respect at Oxford and Cambridge.

After preaching for nearly two years in Dorchester, he became pastor of the church at Weymouth, where he remained until 1643. the following year he removed part of his church to Seconet, where they founded the town of Rehoboth, which embraced Seekonk and Pawtucket, Rhode Island."
