Hinges andspine show signs of careful strengthening at some time in the past. Overall a rather good copy. ** Alexander Cruden (1699-1770) educated at Marischal College, Aberdeen, MA; secretary to the tenth Earl of Derby, 1729 but discharged on account of his ignorance of French in the same year. Became a tutor in the Isle of Man and then a bookseller in the Royal Exchange in 1732. Published his Concordance in 1737; became insane, 1738; escaped from confinement, that same year. He belived himself divinely appointed to reform the nation and received great respect at Oxford and Cambridge.
