Auton, C. (Augustis Hoppin)
Recollections of Auton House
Boston, Houghton, Mifflin Company, no date. Later printing. Hardcover. (1909). Square octavo, green pictorial cloth, gilt. 99pp. Illustrated with drawings by the author. Very good with light edgewear and soil. Originally published by Houghton Mifflin in 1881. Augustus Hoppin (1828-1896), with humor, describes his life as one of eleven children in the Auton House. After passing the bar, he decided against the law and turned to illustration, cartooning and satire for publications like Harper's Weekly. He was also a book illustrator. Very good .
