| MAULE, TEX (PSEUDONYM OF HAMILTON PRIELEAUX BEE MAULE) The Corner Back, a Novel of Professional Football New York, David McKay Company. 1967, First Edition. Hard Cover, Octavo -- from 7.75" to 9.75" Tall. Fiction. Maule's sixth novel of professional football. In this one, a fifth-year corner back with the Los Angeles Rams (they may be the St. Louis Rams now, but in a just universe they'd still be in L.A.) becomes suspicious of "a menace that threatens not only himself and his teammates but the whole National Football League. Who is this friendly neighbor, so eager to supply steaks for cook-outs, so solicitous about the health and prospects of the team?" (I'm thinking we've got a bet or two going, here). Pale green cloth w/black spine lettering, 200 pages. Gently bumped/lightly worn corners/spine ends, lightly soiled edges, in moderately edgeworn dust jacket w/light chipping to corners/spine ends, short tears to spine ends. Jacket in protective mylar sleeve. Almost all available copies of this title are either missing a jacket or have had the snot hammered out of them through the cruel ministrations of librarians, but this copy has made it through the years still wearing its jacket and managing to escape the stamps and numbers and mishandling of the bibliobarbarians. Amazingly, it doesn't even have a previous owner's name, address, date, note, scribble, or doodle. Very Good/Very Good. USD 35.00 [Appr.: EURO 23.25 | £UK 21.25 | JP¥ 3010] Book number: 015531 Click here to order or inquire at Augustine Funnell Books. | ||

Burgundy cloth w/orange spine lettering, 182 pages, cover illustration by Calabrese. A bit of slant, tanning, faint dampstaining to bottom edge, in price-clipped dust jacket w/some edgewear/light chipping, sticker pull to top right corner of front panel, a bit of dampstaining to bottom of rear panel. Can be a difficult title to find in a dust jacket. Very Good/Good.
