Provides "An exposition of the nature and action of soils and manures and the structure and growth of plants; directions for the forming a (sic) garden; description of implements and fixtures; instructions for sowing, transplanting, budding, grafting, and cultivating vegetables, fruits, and flowers; with a chapter on Ornamental Trees and Shrubs." A title from the publisher's Rural Hand-Books series, this being the first. Red cloth w/gilt lettering/decoration to front cover/spine, title blind-stamped to back cover, rule in blind to both covers, 166 pages (including appendix), 8 pages of advertisements for other titles by Fowler and Wells (and damn funny some of them are, too), illustrated. Bumped/worn corners, edge/cover soil, previous owner's pencil signature to front end paper, previous owner's name in small, neat letters to title page, tanning, a bit of internal soil. Good/No Jacket (as issued).
