	MCQUEEN, ALEXANDER AND GEORGE W. HEISE. A Romance in Research: the Life of Charles F. Burgess [Student - Teacher - Researcher - Industrialist]. Instruments Pub. Co, 1951..Hard Cover. Alexander Burgess was the founder of University of Wisconsin - Madison's Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, a program now ranked among the nation's best. But Burgess' efforts also spawned another U.S. leader, Madison-based Rayovac Corporation, the country's third-largest battery producer. Burgess' career in the battery industry began at the turn of the century when the French Battery Company of Madison (renamed the Rayovac Company in the mid-1930s) asked him to analyze some of its products. Already operating Northern Chemical Engineering Laboratories, a consulting and experimental facility, Burgess knew he could help the start-up manufacturer produce a better electric dry battery. Soon he bought 100 shares of French stock, was elected to its board and took over the engineering department. Burgess left the College of Engineering in 1913 after 19 years on the faculty, initially as an electrical engineering instructor before starting the chemical engineering program in 1905. The ties he formed during these years had a great impact on his business endeavors. 	SCOTT, CHRISTINA. A Historian and His World: A Life of Christopher Dawson, 1889-1970. Sheed & Ward Ltd, 1984..Hard Cover. ISBN: 0722041179 . Christopher Henry Dawson (1889 – 1970) was an English independent scholar, who wrote many books on cultural history and Christendom. He was brought up at Hartlington Hall, in Yorkshire. He was educated at Winchester College and Trinity College, Oxford. His background was Anglo-Catholic, but he became a Roman Catholic convert in 1914. As a post-graduate student, he studied economics, and then at Oxford history and sociology. He also read in the work of the German theologian Ernst Troeltsch. In 1916, Dawson married Valery Mills. As a revivalist of the Christian historian, Christopher Dawson has been compared with Kenneth Scott Latourette and Herbert Butterfield. Comparisons have also been made between the work of Dawson and German sociologist and historian Max Weber. Both employ a metahistorical approach to their subjects, and their subjects themselves bear similarities; namely, the influence of religion on aspects of western culture, ex-library.
