| LUNETTES, HENRY The American Gentleman's Guide to Politeness and Fashion; Or, Familiar Letters to His Nephews, Containing Rules of Etiquette, Directions for the Formation of Character, Etc. Etc. Illustrated By Sketches Drawn from Life, of the Men and Manners of Our Times. New York: Derby & Jackson, 1857. First Edition. Hardcover; First Impression. ISBN: 0688025919. Illustrated by BW plate as Frontispiece. Covers moderately worn, with text slightly foxed, in a few places, and several signatures darker than others, with the use of paper with more wood pulp and less rag content in them; ink name from 1857 on the title-page; otherwise nearly VG ; Basically a bright, solid, clean copy, in the original embossed brown cloth covers, with gold lettering. A sturdily-bound volume, fortunately, easily able to withstand the careful attention of interested readers, as this one surely has. ; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 480 pages; One of the many advice books of this kind meant for Americans whose families did not provide them with this kind of instruction. The "sketches drawn from life," here, moreover, are VERBAL sketches, rather than pictorial ones, in contrast to what one might think they would be. Probably one of the more ambitious books of its kind.. Good+ . USD 65.00 [Appr.: EURO 43.5 | £UK 39.25 | JP¥ 5737] Book number: 9930 Click here to order or inquire at American Worlds Books. |
