L'Album de la Guerre: Histoire Photographique Et Documentaire Reconstituee Chronologiquement a L'Aide de Cliches Et de Dessins Publies Par "L'Illustration" de 1914 a 1921, Tomes I-II
Paris, L'Illustration, 1930. Leather. 2 vols. 1302p total. A set of two large, folio-size hardcover books bound in golden-brown leather with gilt lettering. The spines and boards are heavily scuffed. Tipped-in plate of General Joffre is missing. First few leaves of volume 2 are coming loose. Occasional light fingerprint smudges, but otherwise, text and plates are clean. Binding is still holding, but due to the weight of these heavy volumes, the binding could easily crack if the books are not handled gently. A magnificent photographic history of World War I, filled with images which were originally published in the French weekly newspaper L'ILLUSTRATION. Also contains color paintings and tipped-in plates of French and British commanders. Complete in two volumes, with all text in French. Both volumes measure approx. 15.75" x 12.5. Good .
