PACK, S.W.C.
The Battle of Matapan
New York, Macmillan. 1961, 1st.US Ed.. Hardcover. Book, Description of the encounter in 1941 between the Royal Navy and the Italian Fleet off Cape Matapan, Greece during WW II. "In March 1941 Britain faced the Axis powers alone. Her army was still in disarray after Dunkerque, her fleet was stretched to the uttermost. It was in this context that, 100 miles off Cape Matapan in Greece, there was fought an action in which the Italian fleet was so signally defeated that it never voluntarily offered battle again so long as the war lasted. The engagement, the first major fleet action since Jutland a quarter of a century earlier, was of historical significance for two reasons; it was the first time carrier-borne aircraft had played a vital role, and the first time that the use of radar was of preponderant importance in a large-scale fleet action. Here is an account of Matapan which, illustrated by unfamiliar action photographs, will satisfy the expert no less than it will engross the general reader." 183p. plates.index. Near Fine/Near Fine.

SETTERINGTON, KEN
Branded by the Pink Triangle
Toronto, Second Story Press. 2019, Reprint. (ISBN: 1926920961) Soft cover. Book, efore the rise of the Nazi party, Germany, especially Berlin, was one of the most tolerant places for homosexuals in the world. Activists such as Thomas Mann and Albert Einstein campaigned openly for the rights of gay men and women and tried to repeal the law against homosexuality. But that all changed when the Nazis came to power; existence for gay people became fear-filled. Raids, arrests, prison sentences and expulsions became the daily reality. When the concentration camps were built, homosexuals were imprisoned along with Jews and any other groups the Nazis wanted to suppress. The pink triangle sewn onto prison uniforms became the symbol of the persecution of homosexuals, a persecution that would continue for many years after the war. A mix of historical research, first-person accounts and individual stories brings this time to life for young readers. Stories of bravery in the face of inhuman cruelty, friendship found in the depths of despair in the camps and the perseverance of the human spirit will educate and inspire.155p. illus. As New.

STEINBECK, JOHN
The Moon is Down
New York, Viking. 1942, 1st US Edition. Hardcover. Book, Published in 1942, the book tells the story of the military occupation of a small town in Northern Europe by the army of an unnamed nation at war with England and Russia. Numerous editions of the book were secretly and illegally published across all of occupied Europe. It was also adapted for stage and film. The film production in 1943 starred Cedric Hardwicke, Henry Travers and Lee J. Cobb. Near Fine/Near Fine.
