Includes the 1909 South African Act which formed the Union of South Africa and was South Africa's constitution between 1910 and 1961. This came into being on 31st May 2010 and was only superseded when the Union changed to a Republic in 1961.

A worn copy, spine ends frayed to card, insect attack to map fold. a sound and clean reading copy. "A History Of The Origin Of South African Colonisation And Of Its Development Towards The East From The Earliest Times To 1857". This first volume of the earlier 4-volume edition of Cory's work deals extensively with the history of the Eastern Cape. Starts with a brief introductory on the earlier history of the Cape leading up to the establishment of Graaff Reinet in 1786 from which date the Eastern Province is considered to have had official existence. Cory deals with subsequent events in the large drostdy that this covered in detail, including unrest in and around Graaff Reinet, Slagter's Nek, and The Battle Of Grahamstown.
