Travelling by camel through almost unexplored country and encountering a hitherto unknown tribe of Aborigines, the book "reflects Mr Gill's intense fascination at finding himself amongst true savages; naked, casually cruel, and often seemingly bestial - and yet the inheritors of arts and skills which the white men were compelled to admire."
