Mr Hadfield's book is illustrated by more than forty prints. In addition there are maps (many full-page size), most of which have been specially drawn for the volume". Pp.291, 8 black & white plates, 42 illustrations in the text, and 17 maps, owner's initials to front free endpaper, signed by the author to title page. Illustrated booklet describing The "Thomas" Lift, an apparatus constructed for the purpose of transferring barges and other vesels from one level to another on canals and other waterways, in lieu of an ordinary lock or flight of locks, minimizing the loss of water from the higher to the lower level and providing access for the pasage of vessels simultaneously in both directions in a single operation. It therefor reduced the time it would take to for passage through a flight of locks. Landscape format. 20.4cms x 28.5cms. Unpaginated. 7 black & white photo illustrations + 2 detailed drawings and a map. Grey stiff card covers, a couple of light spots to front. VG.
