(1926); 7 1/2 x 5 3/4; pp. [2], 5-169, [5]; beige wraps, printed and ruled in blue and black; partially unopened; small chip to tail of spine; mild age-toning and wear to margins; in very good condition. Semyon Frank (1877 - 1950) was a Jewish-Russian philosopher and Socialist, who would be expelled from Russia in 1922 - one of the 160 prominent intellectuals on the so called "Philosophers' Ship" - to live the rest of his life in exile. He would be later elected Head of the prestigious Russian Scientific Institute in Berlin, in 1931. During WWII, with the assistance of his friend, author J. R. R. Tolkien, Frank moved with his family to London. His current work, in essence, a summation of his experiences during the Revolution and the following exile years, was translated and published in English in 2010. Very good .

Vasyl Melnyk (1899 - 1949), also known under the pseudonym Vasyl Limnychenko, was a Ukrainian priest, author, translator, and public figure. Towards the end of the Second World he immigrated first to Slovakia and then to Germany, where he lived and worked in Munich until his death. He wrote in a variety of genres - poetry, novels, drama, religious articles, and philosophical and journalistic works - the current book one of the latter. Very good .

Second edition, improved (published a few months after the original first); 6 x 4; pp. [4], 1-137, [5]; textured brown cloth over boards; gilt title to front board; small rubbed spots to tips of spine and corners; a bit of fading and age-toning to margins of boards; foxing mostly contained to endpapers and, occasionally, to margins of leaves; small signature of previous owner to front board verso; overall in very good condition. Samuel Simon Schmucker (1799 - 1873) was a German-American Lutheran theologian, pastor, and author. He was also the co-founder of the General Synod and the Gettysburg Seminary. His current book presented the history of the pre-Reformation "reign of Popery" and the glorious "rise and triumph of the Reformation. Very good .
