Though unpublished, it is included here for its hard-to-find information on this important Moravian settlement in Greater Manchester. Fairfield, well preserved today, was founded 1785 and laid out on an attractive formal plan.

It is notable for the famous 'Marford Houses', a fine sequence of cottages in the picturesque style, developed by the Trevalyn Estate. They were instigated by John Boydell, Estate Agent, but their designer is not known.

Savannah, Beehive, (1969), 3rd ed 1977. 216pp, plans and drawings, many photos. Cloth. 27x29. Good. Excellent visual source on Oglethorpe's planned town, founded 1734-6. Savannah, with its unrivalled series of squares, had considerable influence on early 19th century model community ideas in Britain. For instance J. S. Buckingham visited it and utilized its basic layout pattern in his "Victoria" scheme (see next section).
